1. Why AMERICAP II™? There have been slow Macs, fast Macs and not-so-slow -or-fast Macs. Americap has a time-on-time factor in the scoring calculation providing adjustment for slow or fast races. The single number of PHRF does not have a time-on-time adjustment. In addition, unlike PHRF Americap adjusts ratings based upon wind speed and mix permitting the fleet to be handicapped to conditions historically experienced in the Mac. When portions of the fleet were scored on a test basis in 2002 and 2001, years with rather extreme conditions, the racing under Americap was tighter - more boats were "still in the race" than under PHRF scoring.

5. Anything special for One Design boats? A shortcut is available to Tartan Ten, J/105 and Farr 40 one designs. Fill out the basic owner information on the application and attach a copy of last year’s PHRF certificate showing the “ODR” rating and skip all the requested dimensions.

6. Do I need to be measured? Probably not. Over 90% of last year's fleet is already in the US SAILING database. Check with Daniel DeWindt at US SAILING.

7. What about Flotation Measurement? Not required for a certificate this year and the AMERICAP II™ application available on the Chicago Yacht Club website reflects this. Recognizing that this is the first year for AMERICAP II™ in the Mac, US SAILING is waiving the requirement for flotation measurement. Flotation measurement may be to your advantage so you may wish to consider having it done and having your certificate rerun.
